As I mentioned before, I'm nominated for a Joe Shuster Award this year for my CTON book of Crazy Comics. In case you want to watch a bunch of nerds congratulate themselves, dress up in plaid and clip on ties, and possibly trip when accepting their awards, the event is open to the public:
The Joe Shuster Canadian Comic Book Creator Awards Ceremony
September 26th, 2009
University of Toronto's Innis Town Hall
8PM
This is what the organizers sent me:
This will be the fifth year of the Joe Shuster Awards and we hope
you'll come out and support the event and celebrate the Canadian
comics scene with your peers. The Joe Shuster Awards are run by the
Canadian Comic Book Awards Association, an inclusive organization
which recognizes the contributions of Canadian comic book creators to
the entire comic and cartooning community.
All of the award nominees can be found here:

The annual Word On The Street authors festival is this upcoming sunday, September 27th. I was asked to be a part of it by doing a talk on comics with the right honourable Brian McLachlan.
Here's the details:
11:15am until 12 noon: Creating Comics with Owlkids!
Featuring Brian McLachlan and Clayton Hanmer. Hosted by Christopher Butcher.
More info on WOTS can be found here:
www.thewordonthestreet.ca/wots/
After the talk, we will both be available for book signings at the Beguiling comic tent. I will also be at the Owlkids tent later in the day for more book signing if you haven't gotten your fill yet. Hope to see you out!

A couple of weeks ago (yep, I'm a slow blogger), the Trio Magnus gang (Aaron Leighton, Steve Wilson, myself, and most of our lady friends) were invited up to the Koyama Press cottage on Lake Simcoe. To thank them for their over-whelming generosity, kindness, and hospitality, we decided to create a large-scale Trio Magnus collaborative canvas for their 'games room'. This is the 4th (?) huge-o-mungus piece we've done together, and hopefully not the last. (Some are still for sale by the way...)

Check out my first post of Hog-O-Vision for The Torontoist here today: torontoist.com/2009/07/hog-o-vision.php. Every other week, I will create a one panel comic that takes a look into Toronto's future. (torontoist.com/tags/hog-o-vision) The image above was supposed be the first post, but then the strike was settled so we went with an alternative… which you'll have to click the above link to see.
Torontoist focuses on absolutely everything related to Toronto, including news, arts, events, culture, transit, politics, photography, advertising, street art and graffiti, food, and a whole lot more. Established in October 2004 as part of the thirteen-city Gothamist network, Torontoist is now the largest, most influential, and most widely-read website of its kind in Canada, and is now a partner with the Globe and Mail.
I've recently started design & illustration work on a really cool project with Owlkids Books. It's a children's eco-science book written by award-winning author Elin Kelsey (www.elinkelseyandcompany.com/), who is known for her environmental-based work in education, communications/publishing, and research. I'll post some sneak peaks once things get rolling along. Its going to be a TON of fun to do as they'd like to take a heavily illustrated, comic approach to the book. Yeehaw!!!

Recently I finished a month long stint as a Writer-In-Residence with Open Book: Toronto blogging about comics, illustration, and inspiration. To my delight, OB:T asked me to continue my blog, but instead of writing, I will be creating a weekly comic based on an older comic I did a couple years back for DOSE Magazine ('Life of CTON'). Rodeo Magic will follow the adventures & observations of a comic-loving hick who has relocated to the Big Smoke to pursue his dream of working as a professional creative person. As in DOSE, I'm hoping to poke fun at my hometown, the city, my family, life in general, and of course, my friends! Make sure to drop by Open Book every friday for my newest post. Open Book: Toronto celebrates and profiles Toronto’s nonstop literary scene, with a special focus on the books, authors and events coming out with Ontario's independent, Canadian-owned publishers.

We just found out yesterday that CTON's A-Maze-ing Year of Crazy Comics! has been nominated for a Comics for Kids Award, which is a part of the Joe Shuster Awards (www.joeshusterawards.com)!
The Comics for Kids Award / Prix de Bandes Dessinées pour Enfants recognizes creators who have produced works which capture the attention and fascination of young readers, and help to create a passion for life-long reading. Works considered for this award are comic books and graphic novels by Canadian creators that are targeted at readers 14 and under.

We just found out that my October 2008 edition of CTON\'s corner (in Owl Magazine), Suzie’s Wacky Fall Freak-out Adventure, is an Association of Educational Publishers award winner (www.aepweb.org/awards/perwin.htm) in the illustration category of periodicals! Thanks to Owl for entering, and all of your support with CTON\'s corner!

Welcome to the new CTON site courtesy of those good ol\' boys at Grand Creative (www.wearegrand.com), the best-est interactive agency around! I\'ll also have all my latest merch and paintings on display & for sale... so check back soon & often!
The image above is a doodle I did on Grand\'s War Room chalkboard late last year. Luke, the Creative Director over there, is inviting a new artist in every so often to do their take on the board. BTW, love those old-time office chairs! (Photo courtesy of Grand Creative)
